Title: Savitri Bhaninarada Sampad
Size: 15”X11”
Raja Ravi Varma beautifully captures the essence of one of the finest female figures in Indian epic poetry – Savitri.
The story of Savitri and Satyavat is a well-known tale from Indian mythology, primarily found in the Mahabharata. Savitri, the daughter of King Ashwapati of Madra, was known for her exceptional beauty and virtues. She decided to marry Satyavat, a prince who lived in a woodland hermitage. Satyavat was the son of a blind exiled monarch.
Before their marriage, the sage Narada forewarned Savitri about a grim fate: Satyavat had a limited lifespan, and he would live for only one more year. Despite this ominous prediction, Savitri was determined to marry Satyavat.
This chromolithograph was crafted at the Karla-Lonavla Press.
