This rare early 20th-century bronze Poola Sajja (or Phuler Saji) is a breathtaking testament to the metalwork traditions of South India. Sourced from Tamil Nadu, this flower basket was traditionally crafted to hold fresh, fragrant blooms for daily puja or festive ceremonies.
The basket features a sophisticated hexagonal silhouette with intricate lattice-work (jali) sides, allowing for airflow to keep delicate blossoms fresh. What truly sets this piece apart is the exceptionally unique handle design. Adorned with stylized bird motifs on either side of a turned, ergonomic grip, the craftsmanship showcases a level of detail seldom seen in everyday ritual objects.
Resting on small bun feet, this basket carries a beautiful aged patina that only a century of history can provide. Traditionally used for gathering fresh flowers for daily prayers, it now serves as a stunning centerpiece for a global eclectic interior. Whether displayed as a standalone sculpture or used to hold fragrant botanicals, it brings a storied, soulful presence to any space.
Please note that vintage pieces come with small imperfections, that's a part of its beauty and age.
