An extraordinary and highly collectible Suryaprabha Prabhavali from Kerala, crafted in solid bronze and dating back approximately 150–200 years. Traditionally placed behind temple deities as a sacred halo, the prabhavali represents divine radiance and protection in South Indian temple iconography.

This remarkable example features a radiant Suryaprabha (sun-flame) design, with finely pierced openwork forming a circular halo of rhythmic flame motifs and delicate floral patterns. The layered craftsmanship creates a striking sense of depth and movement, highlighting the exceptional skill of traditional Kerala metal artisans. At the apex sits a beautifully sculpted kirtimukha, the mythical protective face, crowned with a serpent hood—an auspicious symbol commonly seen in historic temple ornamentation.

The central arch is elegantly framed with intricate detailing, creating a harmonious balance between strength and delicacy in the design. Over time, the bronze has developed a rich natural patina that enhances the sculpture’s authenticity and historical character.

Mounted on a metal base for presentation, this prabhavali now stands as both a sacred artifact and a powerful decorative sculpture. With its rarity, age, and exceptional craftsmanship, it represents an important piece of Kerala’s temple metal tradition and would make a distinguished addition to any serious collection of Indian antiques or sacred art.

Please note: The deity idols are shown for display purposes only and are not included with the Prabhavali.

Please note that vintage pieces come with small imperfections, that’s a part of its beauty and age.
