Title: Godohan
Size: 20”L X 14”W ( 23.25”L X 17.25”W with frame)

This captivating vintage lithograph from the iconic Ravi Varma Press beautifully captures the tender intimacy between Yashoda and young Krishna, one of the most beloved relationships in Indian mythology. Titled Godohan, or “the act of drawing milk from a cow,” the artwork portrays Yashoda seated in calm devotion as she milks a cow, while little Krishna clings playfully to her back.

Draped in soft blue and blush garments adorned with delicate silver foil accents, the figures radiate warmth and serenity. A pot at Yashoda’s feet grounds the scene in rustic realism, while the gentle presence of the cow evokes themes of nourishment, maternal care, and sacred tradition. A true collector’s piece that celebrates divine love and rural elegance.

This embellishment is exceptionally rare. It was crafted by workers at the press, along with their family members, who used available fabric to sew these details—both as a means of occupying their time and supplementing their income.

This artwork is more than a scene—it is a moment frozen in time, rendered with deep cultural resonance. It bridges myth and modernity, reminding us of how art can preserve not just stories, but emotion, memory, and collective identity.

To preserve its historical character while making it suitable for modern display, we carefully restored and framed this piece using archival materials. Instead of traditional glass, we opted for lightweight acrylic glazing to reduce overall weight and enhance safety without compromising clarity.
