This rare museum-grade powder box originates from West Bengal, India, and is an exceptional example of traditional metal craftsmanship executed through the lost wax (cire perdue) process. Historically used to store cosmetic or ritual powders, the piece reflects both functional design and symbolic ornamentation.

The powder box is circular in form and raised on a finely worked pedestal base, giving it a balanced and dignified presence. Its hinged lid is elaborately decorated, allowing secure closure while showcasing the artisan’s technical skill. The body is richly engraved with repeating geometric and linear patterns characteristic of regional metalwork traditions.

A prominent peacock motif crowns the top of the lid, symbolizing beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness in Indian culture. Surrounding it are three smaller peacock motifs, each delicately formed with suspended elements that add movement and visual richness. The surface bears a deep, aged patina, enhancing the object’s historical depth and authenticity.

Please note that vintage pieces come with small imperfections, that's a part of its beauty and age.
