A rare and finely crafted antique hanging bronze oil lamp, estimated to be approximately 200 years old. This exceptional piece showcases traditional metal artistry with deep historical character and intricate detailing.
The lamp is designed in a classic kootu vilakku (multi-wick style), formed in solid bronze with elegant proportions and balanced symmetry. The vertical supports feature continuous engravings in ancient Malayalam Vattezhuthu script, adding strong cultural and epigraphic significance. Among the markings, an old Malayalam numeral “618” is inscribed, though its exact reference remains unknown.
The crown is beautifully formed as a budding lotus, symbolizing purity, prosperity, and spiritual growth, enhancing the aesthetic and traditional appeal of the lamp.
A notable functional feature is its special chain suspension system with a rotating sleeve (“gaadi”), allowing the lamp to rotate freely when hung. This engineered movement adds both visual grace and practical balance to the suspended structure.
A striking blend of craftsmanship, and heritage, this antique lamp stands as a remarkable collectible with both artistic and historical significance.
Please note that vintage pieces come with small imperfections, that’s a part of its beauty and age.
