This oleograph, published by the Raja Ravi Varma Press, portrays Vasantasena, the protagonist of the renowned Sanskrit play "Mricchakatika" (The Little Clay Cart) written by Sudraka. The play was translated as "The Toy Cart" by Horace Hayman Wilson in 1826, a surgeon in the East India Company. In 1847, the German scholar A.F. Stenzler translated the text, and it was published in Bonn. Vasantasena has been depicted by notable artists, including Abanindranath Tagore, and gained popularity in the Pre-Independence era by Raja Ravi Varma through his oleograph.

This chromolithograph was crafted at the Karla-Lonavla Press.
