Bring home a rare piece of sacred heritage with this exquisite, over 60-year-old clay figurine of Goddess Andal Devi, sourced from a Tamil Brahmin home in Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu—a family long associated with service at the revered Andal Temple. Steeped in spiritual lineage and devotional energy, this molded and hand-painted figure represents more than art; it reflects generations of faith and tradition.
Known in South India as a golu or kolu, this beautifully crafted statue would have once been part of a traditional Navratri display, a cherished practice in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. During the nine-night Hindu festival, such divine figures—depicting gods, goddesses, and mythological scenes—are displayed to invoke blessings, tell sacred stories, and celebrate the divine feminine.
Handcrafted and hand-painted in rich, traditional hues, Andal stands gracefully in a vibrant green saree, holding a red lotus that embodies her unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu. Atop the lotus rests a finely sculpted parrot—a sacred companion closely linked to Andal’s divine love and lyrical devotion. She stands upon a lotus pedestal, infusing the piece with profound symbolism and spiritual reverence.
This is a rare subject and a one-of-a-kind vintage collectible, deeply tied to temple tradition and spiritual history. Perfect for altars, heritage decor, or as a centerpiece in a devotional display.
Please note that vintage pieces come with small imperfections, that’s a part of its beauty and age.
