This majestic pair of hand-carved Yazhlis once adorned the base of a South Indian temple chariot, crafted around 50 years ago and used in ceremonial processions starting in 1975. Each figure, sculpted in rich aged wood, embodies the mythical Yazhli—part lion, part guardian spirit—known for warding off negative energies and standing watch over sacred spaces.
The patina, chisel marks, and weathered contours speak to decades of ritual movement, temple life, and reverence. With their bold forms and curled manes, these brackets bring a sense of strength and protection to any space they grace. While originally mounted on a moving chariot, they now serve beautifully as wall sculptures—perfect for framing a shrine, flanking an entryway, or anchoring an artful corner.
Brass hooks remain at the base of each piece, a subtle trace of their former function, but easily removable if a cleaner silhouette is preferred. These are not just decor pieces—they are fragments of living tradition, salvaged, preserved, and ready to be relived.
Please note that vintage pieces come with small imperfections, that’s a part of its beauty and age.
